Bundling groups cut panels into work units that travel through sewing as a single trackable batch, usually by size, colour, and a fixed bundle quantity such as 15 to 30 pieces depending on style complexity. Each bundle carries a ticket recording style, size, colour, lay number, and ply sequence, which protects against shade variation between plies of the same lay. Increasingly, factories replace paper tickets with barcode or RFID tags scanned at each operation, giving real-time work-in-progress visibility instead of relying on end-of-day manual counts. This shift matters most in factories running many small-lot styles, where WIP location is otherwise hard to reconstruct from memory or handwritten logs.
Accurate bundling directly affects sewing line balance because operators receive predictable batch sizes that match takt time assumptions used in line layout. Poor bundle discipline, such as mixed sizes in one bundle or missing tickets, creates line stoppages while supervisors trace and correct the batch. RFID-based systems also support automated payroll calculation under piece-rate or incentive schemes, since each scan records operator, operation, and time, removing manual bundle-count reconciliation.
