In-line checks, traffic light control and buyer audits

End-line inspection only tells you what already went wrong. In-line control catches defects while there is still material and time to fix them, and a well-run in-line system is exactly what a buyer audit is looking for.

How it works
1.Run checks at the source operation
A roving checker audits a fixed number of pieces at each critical operation every hour, against the sew-by sample. The result is a status per operation, not a pile of rejected garments at the end.
2.Use traffic-light status to force action
Green: within limit, continue. Yellow: drifting, adjust and re-check within the hour. Red: stop the operation, quarantine output since the last pass and correct before restarting. The rule must be the same on every line.
3.Control needles, sharps and metal
Broken needle pieces accounted for and logged, sharps issued one-for-one, and every garment passing a calibrated metal detector before packing. This is a safety requirement in most buyer manuals, not optional paperwork.
4.Prepare the audit from daily records
Technical and ethical audits read your own records: defect logs, CAPA closure, needle log, training records, machine guarding, chemical storage. If the daily records are honest and complete, audit preparation is a review, not a rebuild.
Quick reference
- In-line frequency
- Every hour per critical operation
- Traffic-light red action
- Stop, quarantine, correct, re-check
- Needle policy
- One-for-one issue with all pieces recovered
- CAPA closure target
- Root cause verified within 14 days
Checks you can run this week
- Confirm every line uses one shared defect code list and one status rule.
- Verify metal detector calibration with test cards at shift start and end.
- Trace one closed CAPA back to the process change it produced.
- Check quarantined output from the last red status was fully re-inspected.

Common questions
- What is the difference between in-line and end-line checks?
- In-line checks a specific operation while the garment is still in the line, so the machine or method can be corrected immediately. End-line checks the finished garment and can only sort good from bad.
- Do you charge for audit support material?
- No. Every checklist and toolkit on NOSK.life is free of charge — we never take a single penny from anyone.
